Social cards, also known as social previews are a valuable tool for social media since they allow you to choose the tile, description, and an image that will be displayed on socia media platforms when either you or someone else shares content.
There are numerous online apps that allow you to view the social card, or social preview of your content, but if you want something a bit more convenient, you can try Share Preview.
Share Preview is a stylish, little Linux app (mostly designed for GNOME), that allows you to preview and test social media cards locally.
What to expect from this app
Of course, you should not expect it to be at the level of paid, professional social media tools that a social media manager might use daily. Share Preview allows you to test your social media cards for three big platforms, namely Facebook, Mastodon, and Twitter.
You simply copy the link, paste in the in the app, and press Enter, and the app offers a pretty clear view of how your social media cards will look for anyone or everyone sharing your content.
It’s a minimalist app, so there are no hidden features. In short, what you see is what you get. The app also has two GUI themes (Light and Dark) which should come in handy if you’re working in poorly lit environments, and that’s pretty much about it, if you don’t count the keyboard shortcut support for quitting the app (CTRL+Q) which is hardly a feature.
Verdict
To conclude, Share Preview was not designed to be a mind-blowing app. It does one thing, and it does it well. Of course, that’s if you only want to test and preveiw social media cards on Facebook, Mastodon, and Twitter.
