Reco 3.3.1

Imagine having to sit through a job- or business-related meeting that’s a bit too fast paced for your current mood or your attention span, next thing you know, meeting is over, and you’re left with wanting a bit more information.

That’s exactly what happened to the developer of Reco, a beautifully simple, free and open-source audio recording app that was born from need to recall things later.

Even though the app was originally designed and release for elementary OS, it can be installed on most Linux distributions directly from Flathub.

Features at a glance

One of the best features of Reco is its gorgeous GUI (not surprising, since most apps built for elementary OS have a certain clear-cut beauty about them).

Despite it being dead-simple to use and looking good, the app itself is quite capable. For instance, you’re provided with various format options when it comes to saving your recordings: ALAC, FLAC, MP3, OGG, Vorbis, Opus, and WAV.

You’re also provided with the ability to tweak the recording session. You can set a delay before the recording starts (up to 15 seconds), as well as the overall lenghts of the recording (of up to 600 seconds).

Another great feature is the automatic saving. Even if you accidentally quit the app while recording, the recording (up until that specific point in time) is saved automatically.

Last but not least, Reco is capable of recording sound from both your computer’s audio card (from your system) and your computer’s microphone at the same time.

Conclusion

Reco was created since, at the time (and according to its developer) there weren’t many audio recording apps for elementary OS that perfectly suited his needs.

The best part is that it works just as great on a lot of other Linux distributions. All in all, a great little audio recording tool for Linux that looks good, offers a great array of features, and is very user-friendly.
