SiteMarker 2.1.1

Can you imagine a world where all your favorite, modern web browsers didn’t feature support for bookmarks? The interesting thing is, bookmarks were a thing way before web browsers existed, probably even before Medieval times.

What browsers provide in terms of bookmark organization is definitely enough for some users, but they’re nowhere near the level of sophistication brought by various new-age online bookmark managers.

SiteMarker is one the other side of the spectrum. It’s an open-source bookmark manager that comes in the form of a gorgeous GTK4 desktop app for Linux (more specifically, for GNOME desktop environments). Yes, you heard that right, it’s a local bookmark manager.

SiteMarker provides almost the same functionality as most browsers when it comes to bookmark organization. You can save your favorite webpages/websites in a database, you can manage said records (view, delete, move them), and you can also import or export said databases.

One very good reason to use SiteMarker is if you want to ensure a higher degree of privacy since content that’s saved locally on your computer is arguably a bit better protected than something found in a cloud (of course, if all the security conditions are ensured).

Another reason to use SiteMarker is if you want to keep your browser as standard, and as clean as possible. After all, we’ve all been there in that situation with 100 opened tabs, and probably the same number of folders to organize bookmarks.

At the end of the day, SiteMarker does exactly what any modern web browser is capable of when it comes to bookmarks. SiteMarker helps you keep track of your favorite webpages and websites.

Sadly, there’s not much in terms of bookmark organization (as far as we can tell, you can organize them using tags and folders), but that’s definitely something that can be added with future updates to the app.
