ALT Linux KDE is an open source and modern Linux distribution based on the Mandrake operating system and using the KDE Plasma and Applications project as its default desktop environment.
The ALT Linux operating system provides users with a very modern, RPM-based computing environment crafted to perfection and designed to please all types of users. It comes with Cinnamon, GNOME, MATE, Razor-qt, Xfce, Enlightenment, IceWM and WindowMaker editions.
Distributed as bootable, 32-bit and 64-bit Live CDs
Being engineered to run mostly on modern and high-end systems, this edition is distributed as Live DVD ISO images and it’s the biggest ALT Linux flavor. It supports both 64-bit and 32-bit instruction set architectures and can be deployed on either a blank CD disc or a USB thumb drive.
Comes with a persistent session and standard boot options
The boot medium can be used to test your computer’s RAM (Random Access Memory) for errors, as well as to boot the currently installed operating system. A persistent mode is also provided, allowing users to save their live sessions and reuse it whenever they want (only compatible with USB flash drives).
KDE is the default and only desktop environment
The KDE desktop environment is comprised of a single taskbar located at the bottom edge of the screen. It can be used to switch between the two virtual desktops, interact with running apps and the system’s functions, as well as to access the main menu and launch applications.
Default applications
All of the default KDE applications are present, along with third-party ones like the Mozilla Firefox web browser, Kid3 audio tagger, Kaffeine media player, k9copy DVD-Video backup tool, Kdenlive video editor, Calligra office suite, SFLphone Internet telephone, and many others.
There are way too many applications and games to mention here. No matter if you like KDE or not, this operating system will provide a computing environment engineered to define the unwritten laws of Linux based operating systems.
