Altus is a cross-platform, open-source, Electron-based app that allows you to use multiple instances of WhatsApp web and multiple accounts simultaneously from the comforts of your Linux computer. It also works on Windows and macOS.
The way Altus works is that it brings the WhatsApp Web app directly to your computer’s desktop, similar to what a wrapper app does. However, Altus is so much more.
The advantages of Altus
Here’s the thing. While wrappers apps are useful in the sense that they bring the same functionality of web apps to one’s desktop, this app provides users with a lot more options, and ultimately an improved user experience.
For example, you can choose between various themes (including a Dark Mode), and even write your own CSS themes with the built-in Theme Customizer. You also get to manage the notifications, turn off sounds, as well as the “Utility Bar.” There’s also a spell-checker.
The app boasts native notification support, even though they may not work on all Linux distributions due to the wide diversity of desktop environments.
Super easy to get along with
Clearly, this is a nice little app that ticks all the right boxes when it comes to user-friendliness. Using Altus is just as easy as using a browser to access WhatsApp web.
You use your phone to connect to WhatsApp Web in the same fashion, select the desired options from the “First Start” screen, and that’s pretty much it.
You can add as many WhatsApp instances as you like, even though the developer has yet to state what the app’s limits actually are.
Verdict
Altus isn’t just good when you want to use multiple instances of WhatsApp web, but it’s quite adequate to have even if you only want a WhatsApp client for Linux.
