Antergos 19.4

Antergos (previously know as Cinnarch) is an open source and free distribution of Linux based on the well known Arch Linux operating system and built around the powerful and modern GNOME desktop environment.

Availability, boot options and supported architectures

The distribution is available for download as two Live DVD ISO images, which means that in order to boot from them and use or install the operating system you will need to write them to blank DVD discs or USB flash drives.

From the boot menu, users can start an existing operating system that is installed on the first disk drive, run a memory diagnostic test, as well as to view detailed information about the hardware components of their computer.

In addition, it is possible to change the language (default is English) by pressing the F2 key, switch to a different video mode using the F3 key, as well as to add additional boot parameters using the F4 key.

Minimal software collection, great desktop environment

As mentioned, the graphical session in Antergos is powered by the GNOME, which provides users with a modern desktop environment that features a single panel located on the upper side of the screen, from where users can search and launch applications, find and open files, interact with running programs, and switch between virtual workspaces.

The distribution will prompt users with a nicely designed dialog that allows them to try the operating system without installing anything on their computers, as well as to install it on a local disk using either the graphical or command-line installers.

Default applications include the Chromium web browser, PacmanXG package manager, Xnoise media player, Transmission BitTorrent client, GNOME Terminal terminal emulator, Gedit text editor, Empathy multi-protocol instant messenger, Evinde document viewer, Cheese webcam viewer, Eye of GNOME image viewer, GParted partition editor, and Nautilus file manager.

A special distribution for special people

Summing up, Antergos is a special distribution of Linux that uses the latest version of the GNOME desktop environment (Cinnarch used Cinnamon) and the stable, rolling-release base of the amazing Arch Linux operating system.

What’s new in Antergos 19.4:

  • Packages updated for the live and minimal install environments.
