Bitnami Phabricator Stack is a free and multiplatform software project that provides all-in-one native installers, virtual appliances, cloud images, as well as a Docker container for the Phabricator web-based applications suite. It includes ready-to-run versions of the Apache, MySQL, PHP, phpMyAdmin and OpenSSL technologies. The stack is compatible with Linux and Mac OS X operating systems.
What is Phabricator?
Phabricator is an open source software suite, a collection of web-based applications designed to help developers create attractive and useful software projects. It’s one of those tools built by developers for developers, allowing them to be more efficient when creating apps. Highlights include support for the Git, Subversion and Mercurial version control systems, as well as a meme generator.
Installing Bitnami Phabricator Stack
The Bitnami Phabricator Stack project is primarily distributed as native installers for all GNU/Linux distributions. To install it on your personal computer or laptop, download the binary that corresponds to your architecture (64-bit or 32-bit), save the .run file on your Home folder and make it executable. Then, double-click it and follow the on-screen instructions.
Running Phabricator on the cloud
In addition to installing Phabricator on your PC, it is also possible to deploy it on the cloud thanks to Bitnami’s pre-built cloud images, which have been engineered to work out-of-the-box with the Amazon EC2 and Windows Azure cloud hosting providers.
Virtualize Phabricator or use the Docker container
Bitnami also offers a virtual appliance for the Phabricator software, allowing you to use the application suite on virtual machines, such as Oracle VirtualBox or VMware ESX/ESXi. The virtual image is based on the latest LTS release of the Ubuntu Linux distribution. A Phabricator Docker container will be ready for download on the project’s website (see link below) for all users.
The Phabricator LAMP/MAMP modules
Besides the Bitnami Phabricator Stack product reviewed here, users can download LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP) or MAMP (Mac, Apache, MySQL or PHP) modules that allows you to install the Phabricator software on personal computers much faster, without having to deal with its runtime dependencies.
