Bitnami phpList Stack is a freely distributed, easy-to-use and multiplatform software whose main goal is to help users with the deployment of the phpList web-based application on personal computers.
It provides an all-in-one graphical installer, which contains ready-to-use versions of the phpList, MySQL, Apache, PHP and phpMyAdmin applications, that can be used to quickly install phpList and its runtime dependencies on personal computers.
What is phpList?
phpList is an open source, platform-independent, easy to install and free web-based application written in the PHP programming language and designed from the ground up to act as a powerful one-way email announcement delivery system that is very useful for newsletters, notifications or publicity lists.
Installing Bitnami phpList Stack
To install phpList on your personal computer running either a GNU/Linux, Mac OS X or Microsoft Windows operating system, you must download the binary package that corresponds to your computer’s architecture (64-bit or 32-bit), save it on your desktop or Home directory, make it executable, double click it and follow the on-screen instructions.
Run phpList in the cloud
In addition to installing phpList on personal computers using the graphical installer, you can also run the application in cloud, thanks to Bitnami’s pre-build cloud images for the Windows Azure and Amazon EC2 cloud hosting providers.
Virtualize phpList on VMware and VirtualBox
If installing phpList on a PC or deploying it on the cloud is not your thing, you can use Bitnami’s virtual appliance based on the latest LTS (Long Term Support) release of Ubuntu Linux to virtualize phpList on the VMware ESX/ESXi and Oracle VirtualBox virtualization software.
The Bitnami phpList Module and Docket container
Besides the Bitnami phpList Stack product reviewed here, Bitnami also offers a module for its LAMP, MAMP and WAMP stacks, so you can easily deploy the phpList application without installing its runtime dependencies. Additionally, a phpList Docket container will be available on the project’s website.
