Gedit Plugins (gedit-plugins) is an open source and freely distributed project that contains a collection of plugins for the popular and lightweight Gedit text editor, which has been designed from the ground up to run on top of the GNOME desktop environment, but it can also be used with any other open-source window manager/desktop environment.
What’s in the package?
The package contains approximately 20 plugins for the Gedit application. In alphabetical order, they are: Bookmarks, Bracket Completion, Charmap, Code Comment, Color Picker, Color Schemer, Commander, Dashboard, Drawspaces, Git, Join Lines, Multiedit, Smart Spaces, Synctex, Terminal, Text Size, Word Completion and Zeitgeist.
What can I do with these plugins?
The aforementioned plugins will transform your apparently simple Gedit application into a powerful text editor, allowing you to do add bookmarks, edit multiple files at the same time, comment the code of your program, access a Git repository, join lines of text, draw spaces, add colors and special characters, access a terminal emulator, change the text size, and many more.
I want it! Is my GNU/Linux distro supported?
Yes, most probably! The Gedit Plugins package is distributed as part of the GNOME Project, as a universal sources archive, which means that it can be easily installed on any GNU/Linux operating system. In addition, you can install the gedit-plugins package from the default software repositories of your Linux distribution. Both 32-bit and 64-bit architectures are supported at this time.
What is Gedit?
Gedit is an open source and free graphical text editor and word processing application designed especially for the GNOME desktop environment. It is a cross-platform application that supports the GNU/Linux, BSD, Mac OS X and Microsoft Windows operating systems. It can be used by programmers to write and edit code, which means that it can be easily transformed into an IDE (Integrated Development Environment).
