GNOME Logs 3.28.3

GNOME Logs is an open source application that provides users with a modern, graphical application for viewing logs outputted by the systemd journal program inside any Linux distribution that uses the systemd daemon.

Designed for GNOME

As its name implies, GNOME Logs has been designed especially for the GNOME desktop environment. It is distributed as a source archive that allows users to configure, compile and install the application on any Linux-based operating system, supporting both 64-bit and 32-bit architectures.

The software offers an attractive and intuitive way for any user to view the system logs generated by the systemd package. It uses a modern GUI (Graphical User Interface) that follows the GNOME HIG (Human Interface Guidelines).

GNOME Logs’ user interface is comprised of a sidebar with vertical tabs, each one with a different category, as well as the main view area, where you can view the error messages and warnings.

Features at a glance

The main categories are Important, All, Applications, System, Security, and Hardware. While the “Important” category will display only very important messages, the “All” section displays all the messages generated by systemd journal, which will take a while to load.

The “Applications” category lists all the error messages and warnings related to installed applications, the “System” category shows system-related logs, and the “Security” section displays warnings related to the general system security.

Lastly, the “Hardware” section can be used to view logs related to the hardware components of your PC or laptop. Users can click each entry to view a more detailed description, which could include priority, kernel device, as well as the complete message.

Allows you to view system errors

A useful search function is also implemented in the application, allowing users to quickly search for a specific error, component, etc. The application is useful for system administrators and regular users alike, allowing them to view system/application errors in a modern, human readable way.
