Text translation has never been easier than it is today. I don’t think I’m exaggerating when I say that most people translate their texts and documents online using Google Translate (or a wide range of other, very good similar services such as Bind Translator, Reverso, MyMemory, TranslateDict, Translator.eu, and so forth).

Let’s say that you want to translate documents or text fast, but you don’t want to have to context switch between your other apps and your browser. If that’s the case, then a cool little desktop translation app can do the trick.

lfy is one such cool little desktop translation app. It’s free, open-source, and it comes with support for a few very popular translation service APIs such as Google Translate, Bing Translate (or Microsoft Translator), Baidu, and Tencent.

There’s really not all that much to write home about when it comes to lfy, especially when it comes to features (or lack thereof). It’s a GTK app, which means it looks nice on GNOME desktop environments.

The app allows you to switch between various online service APIs from both the main window and the Preferences menu. The fact that the app allows users to add custom APIs is also a plus. Other than that, the app boasts VPN support, as well as automatic clipboard support.

When it comes to simple apps in general, of course, they could have more features, at the expense of ease of use. The same goes for lfy. Yes, the app could have been a bit better with more features, but honestly, it works fine as is.

At the end of the day, it’s a simple translation app built for GNOME, and it gets the job done without issues.
