LXLE (Lubuntu Extra Life Extension) is an open source operating system based on the Lubuntu Linux distribution and using LXDE (Lightweight X11 Desktop Environment) as its main graphical desktop environment.
Based only on LTS (Long Term Support) releases of Lubuntu
The project is always derived from LTS versions of the Lubuntu Linux operating system, distributed as a Live DVD ISO image for 64-bit ardware platforms. They can be burned onto DVD discs or USB flash drives of 2GB or higher capacity.
It provides users with a standard boot menu from where they can easily start the live environment with default options or in safe graphics mode by forcing the VESA framebuffer, test the computer’s RAM for errors, boot an existing OS from the first disk, as well as to install the distribution without testing it (not recommended).
Astonishing LXDE desktop environment with top-notch apps
The cleanliness of the LXDE desktop environment is really astonishing in LXLE, which provides users with a traditional graphical session comprised of a single panel located on the bottom part of the screen, from where they can easily and quickly access installed apps and interact with running programs.
Default applications include the ClamTK anti-virus, Deja Dup backup utility, Parcellite clipboard manager, GIMP image editor, LibreOffice office suite, Shotwell image viewer and organizer, Mirage image viewer, Claws Mail email client, FileZilla file transfer client, and Linphone VoIP client.
In addition, the Transmission torrent downloader, uGet download manager, XChat IRC client, Wicd network manager, Pidgin multi-protocl instant messenger, Arista transcoder, Audacity audio editor, Guayadeque music player, guvcview webcam viewer, and OpenShot video editor are also included.
Bottom line
Summing up, LXLE is a very stable operating system based only on LTS versions of the Lubuntu distribution. It features a great collection of applications and a lightweight, yet astonishing desktop environment powerd by LXDE.
