Motrix 1.6.11

When it comes to choosing a download manager for your computer, there’s nothing wrong with picking one of the most popular apps of this sort out there.

It’s also not wrong if you want to try various alternatives, even though they might not offer the same number of features as the more popular download managers.

Motrix
is one good alternative download manager. It’s an open-source, Electron-based download manager that works on all three major desktop platforms out there Linux, Windows, and macOS.

Reasons to consider Motrix

The first and most important reason to consider Motrix over other more popular apps of this sort is its flexibility. It supports downloading anything from HTTP, FTP, all the way up to BitTorrent and Magnet links (just to name a few).

It also looks and feels the part. It may not the as snappy as other native apps, but there’s no denying that Motrix looks and feels like a modern app should.

You can add up to 10 concurrent download tasks, select the download of specific files in the case of BitTorrent items, and benefit from UPnP & NAT-PMP Port Mapping and a built-in mock user-agent.

Motrix automatically updates the tracker lists every day and provides useful “Download Complete” notifications, as well as a nifty Dark Mode.

Is it perfect?

Even though the app works great, it does have a series of drawbacks. It’s important to note that Motrix is still a very young project that will surely grow as time goes by.

The main issue with Motrix has more to do with the fact that it’s built using Electron than anything else. We’re not going to sugar coat it – like most Electron apps, it’s not exactly light on system resources.

Verdict

All in all, Motrix is a good, all-around download manager. It may not be the fastest or the most technologically advanced app of this sort out there, but it looks really nice and should prove itself perfectly adequate for most day-to-day users’ needs.
