Netrunner Rolling Edition / Desktop 2016.1 / 16.09

Netrunner Rolling Edition is an open source distribution of Linux derived from Manjaro, which in turn is based on the highly acclaimed, lightweight and powerful Arch Linux distro, providing users with a rolling-release computer operating system that does not require them to download a new ISO image when a brand-new Netrunner version is available.

Distributed as 32-bit/64-bit Live DVDs

The Rolling edition of Netrunner is distributed as two Live DVD ISO images, one for each of the supported hardware platform, 32-bit and 64-bit. Both ISOs have approximately 2 GB in size and require you to write them on DVD discs or USB thumb drives of 4GB or higher capacity in order to boot the live system from the BIOS of a computer. They won’t support UEFI computers though.

Boot options

From the boot menu, which is identical in look and functionality with the one of the Manjaro distro, the user can start the live system with free or proprietary drivers, boot an existing operating system from the local drive, view detailed information about your computer’s hardware components using the HDT (Hardware Detection Tool) utility, as well as to run a throughput memory test.

Uses KDE Plasma

The distribution’s default and only graphical desktop environment is powered by KDE Plasma, which uses a traditional and familiar layout, comprised of a single taskbar located on the bottom edge of the screen, from where users can navigate the main menu, launch their favorite apps, as well as to interact with running programs and access essential system functions.

Comes pre-loaded with great apps

Default applications include the GIMP image editor, Mozilla Firefox web browser, Pidgin multi-protocol instant messenger, Qtransmission torrent downloader, Mozilla Thunderbird email and news client, Skype VoIP client, Cheese webcam viewer, Clementine audio player, Kdenlive video editor, VLC Media Player, and the entire LibreOffice office suite. Many essential KDE packages are also installed, and the distribution is compatible with the official Arch Linux and AUR software repositories.
