Septor is a free and open-source GNU/Linux distribution derived from the popular Debian GNU/Linux operating system and built around the latest Tor technologies to provide the GNU/Linux community with yet another security-oriented OS.
Boot options, supported architectures
Like most modern GNU/Linux distributions, Septor is only supported on newer, 64-bit computers. It’s distributed as a live ISO image that lets you use the operating system without installing anything on your computer.
Available boot options on the live ISO image include the ability to start Septor in live mode and run it directly from the bootable medium (USB or CD), as well as two install methods, one that uses a graphical installer, which is recommended for beginners, and a text-mode installer for advanced users.
KDE Plasma desktop environment with plenty of apps
You would expect a security-oriented GNU/Linux distribution to feature a lightweight and ultra-fast desktop environment like Xfce or MATE, but it looks like Septor comes with the KDE Plasma desktop environment by default, and it’s packed with plenty of apps for all your daily computing needs, not only security related.
Among these, we can mention the LibreOffice office suite, VLC media player, GIMP image editor, Mozilla Thunderbird email and news client, Synaptic package manager, as well as many of the standard KDE apps and utilities like K3b, Okular, Gwenview, QuiteRSS, Kate, and Ricochet IM.
Security apps
As mentioned before, Septor is built around the latest Tor technologies to protect your identity and data while browsing the Internet. Default security apps include the Tor Browser anonymous web browser, OnionShare for sharing files securely and anonymously over Tor, and VeraCrypt for encrypting your most precious files.
