An Open Source, simple and fast Linux operating system based on the Puppy Linux distro
Simplicity Linux is an open source remix of the Puppy Linux operating system with a lot of the bloat cut out. It is built around the lightweight Xfce desktop environment and based on the Slacko Puppy distribution. It includes all the functionality that Puppy Linux should have had installed by default, providing users with both a minimalistic and fast Linux-based operating system that is suitable for low-end machines.
Distributed in multiple editions, as Live CDs
The system is distributed in four editions, Desktop, Netbook and X. Each edition has its own target audience and tries to provide users with only the best software packages and features that can not be found in the default Puppy Linux Slacko distribution.
All of them are available for download as hybrid Live CD ISO images that can be deployed to USB flash drives or blank CD discs. They feature the same boot prompt that is used on the upstream Puppy Linux release, allowing users to press the F2 or F3 keys for advanced options.
Default applications
While the Desktop edition is a full blown distro that comes with numerous attractive applications, such as VLC Media Player, LibreOffice, and Skype, the Netbook edition has been engineered for netbooks computers.
It includes almost the same application that are found on the Desktop edition, but things are cloud based here, because netbooks should be used on the go. Lastly, the Media edition is the biggest of them all and it’s built around the powerful XBMC media center application.
As mentioned, the desktop environment is powered by the Xfce project, which has been beautified with an eye-candy theme. It is comprised of a single taskbar located on the upper side of the screen and used for launching apps and interacting with running programs.
Bottom line
Overall, Simplicity Linux is more than a simple distribution. It is designed to be used on low-end machines, providing users with different flavors and a plethora of modern functionality and applications.
