Sugar on a Stick 27

Sugar on a Stick is an open source educational project with a strong focus on the award-winning Sugar Learning Platform. It is an Fedora-based operating system designed to be used directly from a USB stick on any computer, anywhere.

Distributed as 32-bit/64-bit Live CDs

The Sugar on a Stick operating system is distributed on Softpedia as two Live CD ISO images, one for each of the supported hardware platforms, 32-bit (i686) and 64-bit (x86_64). Both ISOs are hybrid, which means that you can write them on CD discs or USB flash drives (recommended, because it uses a persistent mode to save your live sessions).

Live CD boot menu à la Fedora Linux

Being derived from the Fedora Linux operating system, Sugar on a Stick features a Live CD boot menu that is identical in look and functionality with the one of the upstream release. Users will be able to start the live system with normal configuration, as well as to perform a memory test or boot an existing OS from the local drive.

First time configuration

Before you can use the live environment, it is a must to enter a name, as well as to change the color of your avatar. When you’re done with the first time configuration, the Sugar interface will appear, allowing you to interact with the pre-installed applications (see below for a detailed list).

Contains a wide range of educational apps

Among the pre-installed applications, we can mention a web browser, chat client, image viewer, book reader, calculator, abacus, stopwatch, terminal emulator, typing tutor, word processor, and a wide range of educational games.

A five star operating system

Sugar on a Stick is without no doubt a five star operating system, as it delivers a powerful learning platform (Sugar) based on one of the most stable and reliable Linux kernel-based operating systems (Fedora). It is an incredible creative, fun learning tool for children!
