Sweeper 22.08.1

Sweeper is a free and open-source system cleaner developed by KDE. Whereas many other system cleaners focus more on freeing up as much space as possible, Sweeper is primarily designed to protect your privacy.

How does it do that? By removing pretty much all unwanted traces that a  user leaves on the system while using it.

What exactly does it remove then?

There are two main elements that the app is capable of cleaning and are organized in two self-explanatory sections: General and Web Browsing.

In the General, you can clear the clipboard contents (stored by Klipper), all the recent documents, all the run command history, the list of recently used apps (from the KDE menu), as well as all the cached thumbnails.

The Web Browsing section is just as good, as it’s the place from where you can clear all the stored cookies from the websites, all the favicons cached from visited websites, clear the basic web history, all the temporary cache of visited websites, the form completion entries, as well as the cookie policies from all the visited websites.

Just how good is it?

Being a KDE product, it’s unsurprisingly very decent. However, that’s not to say that this is the best possible clearning utility you could get for your computer. At its core, it’s somewhat simple since it only focuses on cleaning traces from an OS, and doesn’t do much in terms of optiomizations (which seems to the trend for today’s apps of this sort).

Secondly, there’s the GUI. Granted, a system cleaner shouldn’t be the most stylish app out there, but there’s no getting around the fact that Sweeper looks and feels a bit outdated.

Verdict

If all you want is a simple app that can efficiently remove cookies and clear out caches from your system, then Sweeper is not at all a bad choice. It’s lightweight, easy-to-use, and gets the job done without fuss.
