Trisquel GNU/Linux Sugar is yet another special edition of the Trisquel GNU/Linux open source and free desktop-oriented operating system based on the Ubuntu Linux distribution and built around the Sugar educational interface for young children of ages 7-17.
Distributed as 32-bit and 64-bit Live CDs
The Sugar edition of Trisquel GNU/Linux is distributed as both 32-bit (x86) and 64-bit (x86_64) Live CD ISO images that will fit perfectly on USB flash drives, so you can deploy them on portable computers, such as netbooks or special laptops for kids.
Custom, multilanguage boot menu
The Live CD boot menu appears when booting the ISO image from the BIOS of your computer, offering you the option to choose your favorite language (English, Spanish, French, Italian, German, Greek, Tamil, Dutch, Russian, Vietnamese, Aymara and Qhiswa are supported at this time) from the get-go.
Then, you will be able to try the operating system without installing it, start the graphical installer directly, check the bootable medium for errors (only if using a CD media), run a memory diagnostic test, as well as to boot an existing OS from the first disk drive.
Uses the latest Sugar TOAST interface
Before accessing the Sugar environment, kids will be able to choose a color that represents your mood, select their gender, as well as to select their age. Please note that the latest Sugar TOAST interface has been designed to be used by adults too. It comprises of two view modes and a panel located on the upper part of the screen, which includes a built-in search function so you can easily find your files.
Included applications
As expected, the Sugar environment includes all the applications that kids need at school, including a text editor, image viewer, web browser, chat client, calculator, audio player, as well as various educational games.
