TurnKey LimeSurvey Live CD is an open source Linux-based operating system that tries to provide users with an easy-to-use and free solution for deploying dedicated LimeSurvey servers with minimum effort. It is based on the award winning Debian GNU/Linux distribution.
LimeSurvey is an open source, web-based and user-friendly survey application that lets users to develop and publish surveys, as well as to collect responses. The distribution includes all of the upstream LimeSurvey configurations, which are installed in /var/www/limesurvey.
Key features include a Postfix MTA (Mail Transfer Agent) for sending email messages to user, such as password recovery, support for secure connections using the latest SSL implementation, the phpMyAdmin administrative front-end for configuring MySQL databases, as well as Webmin modules for configuring Apache, Postfix, MySQL and PHP.
It is distributed as Live CD ISO images, which have been engineered to support both 32-bit (i386) and 64-bit (amd64) instruction set architectures. They can be burned onto blank CDs or written to USB flash drives.
In addition to the Live CDs, the appliance is also available for download as ready-to-use virtual machine images, from the project’s homepage. They are designed to support various virtualization technologies, among which we can mention OpenStack, Xen, OpenVZ, OVF and OpenNode.
When using the Live CD ISO images to install the LimeSurvey software and required packages, please keep in mind that the default username for the SSH, Webmin, phpMyAdmin and MySQL components is root, and the default LimeSurvey username is admin.
Users will need to set new passwords for the root (system administration) account, the MySQL ‘root’ account, as well as to enter a valid email address and password for the LimeSurvey ‘admin’ account, during the first boot configuration process. Don’t forget to write down the IP addresses and ports of the active services!
