Turn photos into cartoon or sketch-like images with the help of this little tool
Coming from the same creator of XnConvert, XnSketch is a cross-platform (works on macOS, Windows, and most Linux distributions), small, and lightweight photo editor that allows you to apply various cartoon-like and sketch effects to your photos and images.
While there’s nothing particularly impressive about XnSketch, the app does its job valiantly. You just load a photo, apply the desired effect, and tweak various aspects, and you’re all set.
Not exactly feature-packed, but it works just fine
The app provides 18 different effects for you to choose from such as Black Strokes, White Strokes, Pastel, Pencil Sketch, Colored Sketch, and so forth.
Once the effect is applied, you can also tweak various aspects of the photo such as the brightness levels, contrast, gamma, exposure, saturation, edges, and colors.
Besides the provided effects, you can also choose between multiple “masks” for your resulting photos. These include various shapes such as circles, triangles, hearts, and so forth.

The GUIs layout is pretty typical as well: a simple toolbar at the top, an effect toolbar at the bottom, and a preview and adjustment pane in the middle.
Using the controls provided in the top toolbar, you can zoom in or out, you can load or export photos, as well as rotate them clockwise or counterclockwise.
Verdict
XnSketch is an effective, little photo editor. It may not be for everybody, since not everyone is a fan of these types of cartoon or sketch effects, but if you are going to use it, it won’t disappoint.
It provides a simple GUI, making it perfect for all types of users, a decent collection of effects and masks, and enough photo editing options to keep most users happy. And, best of all, it’s free.
