Fedora Media Writer 5.0.1

If you want to create a bootable live USB drive with your preferred OS, you have a plethora of nice options on Linux, from simple command-line utilities, to more modern, stylish, and feature packs apps such as UNetbootin or BalenaEtcher.

However, if all you want is to install Fedora on your computer, then you might want to check out this small tool called Fedora Media Writer. It’s main goal is to make it as easily as possible for you to write/burn an image of Fedora to any flash drive or external storage unit.

Here’s how it works

The beauty of Fedora Media Writer stems from its simple graphical user interface. Upon first launching the app, you’re provided with two options: download automatically, and select .ISO file.

If you opt for the first option, Fedora Media Writer downloads the desired version of Fedora for you. You have various options here as well. You can choose between the official editions of Fedora (Server, Workstation, and IoT), various Fedora “spins” (such as KDE Plasma Desktop, Xfce Desktop, or Cinnamon Desktop, etc.), or Fedora Labs (Design Suite, Security Lab, etc.).

The second option is just as straightforward. However, if you choose to use it, please note that the app has only been tested with Fedora images, even though you could, theoretically, write any bootable ISOs.

Verdict

In short, Fedora Media Writer is an awesome little tool that helps you “put” Fedora images on any portable drive (if the basic requirements are met, of course).

It does most of the job for you, as it automatically download the selected version of Fedora image and writes it to your flash drive in a dd-like fashion, while also offering basic information about each Fedora version out there.
