Uruk GNU/Linux 2.0

Uruk GNU/Linux is a free, open source and 100% free computer operating system aimed at desktop users who want to use only free and libre software projects. It is powered by a Linux-libre and low-latency kernel.

Based on Trisquel GNU/Linux, distributed as 64-bit and 32-bit Live ISOs

The OS is built on top of a Trisquel GNU/Linux core, which means that it inherits almost all of its GNU/Linux technologies, such as a Linux-libre kernel and a collection of one hundred percent free software.

Trisquel GNU/Linux is based on Ubuntu Linux, so technically speaking Uruk GNU/Linux is an Ubuntu-based operating system. The distribution currently ships as 64-bit and 32-bit Live ISO images engineered for older and modern PCs.

MATE is the default desktop environment

The default desktop environment of Uruk GNU/Linux is MATE, a lightweight and fast graphical user interface that offers a modern look and feel built around the Plank dock. The interface sports a top panel from where users can access the Apps Menu.

As expected, the Plank dock is located at the bottom of screen, featuring intellihide technology and a few of the most used GNU/Linux software that the developers think you might need and use on a daily basis.

Includes a carefully selected collection of 100% free software

Besides shipping with a Linux-libre kernel, Uruk GNU/Linux includes a carefully selected collection of 100% free software projects that should cover most of your daily computing needs.

You’ll find pre-installed a complete office suite (LibreOffice), a web browser (Abrowser) and email client (Icedove), a multimedia playback software (VLC Media Player), a multi-protocol instant messenger (Pidgin), and many other useful tools.

Other core apps include Terminator, Deluge, Gigolo, XTerm, Curlew, GNU Emacs, California, Atril, GIMP, Liferea, Xfburn, and many of the MATE utilities. Additionally, users will be able to install a Docker image of Uruk GNU/Linux.
